GNAPS leadership had a successful engagement with officials of The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) on August 25, 2023, at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region. The meeting was an invitation from NaCCA to discuss a set of reforms to the Senior High Schools’/Senior Technical Schools’ curriculum.
The Council sought to solicit input(s) for the development of a 3-year curriculum for Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS), which will align with the National Pre-Tertiary Education Curriculum Framework and the National Teachers Standards.
GNAPS, a leading association of private schools and the thought leader in quality education in Ghana, presented its assessment of the current curriculum and the challenges faced by its members in implementing it. The association also proposed ways to make the new curriculum more diverse, inclusive and responsive to the needs of students and the labour market. GNAPS emphasized the importance of quality education for all Ghanaian students, regardless of their school type or location.
NaCCA stated that the framework is being designed to ensure that all secondary education graduates are skill-ready and qualified for the work environment after completion. The meeting also explored opportunities for collaboration between GNAPS and NaCCA to ensure quality education for all Ghanaian students.
“We appreciate NaCCA officials for their transparency, professionalism, and willingness to listen to feedback and recommendations from GNAPS. We also applaud GNAPS members for their confidence and appreciate the leadership for their commitment, enthusiasm, and advocacy for private schools in Ghana,” said, Prof. Damasus Tuurosong – GNAPS president.
The constructive conversation between the two stakeholders is expected to lead to more collaborations in the education sector, which will make a positive impact on learners and the nation at large.
