 Description:

Globally, private schools remain an Gessenal part of the educaonal landscape, offering unique learning environments and personalised educaonal approaches. Yet these schools face challenges, including increasing compeon from the public and private sectors. In Ghana, private schools lack adequate finances, space, and teaching resources and find it difficult to retain quality teachers. Despite these challenges, opportunies include demand for private school educaon due to the percepon of poor quality in public schools and low fees in private schools, even in rural areas.

This baseline survey was to ascertain these localised challenges faced by GNAPS members and the opportunies they can leverage. We employed a cross-seconal online survey of 1063 GNAPS member schools across the 16 regions of Ghana. Data was analysed using descripve stascs. We use graphs for data presentaon to allow for an easy appreciaon of the issues as the informaon is presented more simply and clearly. The results show that private schools are a major source of employment and remain a crical part of preterary educaon in Ghana, providing access to communies in all locaons.

Primarily owned by individuals and close family relaves, school fees remain the primary funding source, and many are struggling to make profits and sll grappling with many challenges, inc luding inadequate infrastructure and an unfavourable regulatory environment. Consequently, operators are unable to meet the demand for their service.
